When Are Winter Tires Required in BC?
In British Columbia, winter tires or chains are required on most major highways between October 1 and April 30. This includes routes like the Sea-to-Sky, Coquihalla, and interior mountain passes.
BC Winter Tire Rule Reminder:
Even if you don’t drive on highways, temperatures below 7°C can affect tire performance — that’s when winter tires give you safer traction, better grip, and shorter braking distances.
- Required: October 1 – April 30
